Questions/Definition  1) Write a definition of a passive audience:  Passive: This is the view that audiences  passively  take in information from the media and that these messages have the same effect on everyone. 2) Write a definition of an active audience:  Active: This is the more modern and generally accepted view that audiences  interact  with and make conscious choices regarding the media they consume. 3) Write a definition of the hypodermic needle theory This is the suggestion that audiences are always  passive  and therefore take the intended message from the producer as if it was injected into their minds.   Audience: Reception Theory 1) What is the preferred reading of a media text? The meaning the producers intend to communicate. This builds on the idea that producers can position the audience in a certain way and influence their reading so they accept the intended message by using recognised codes and conventions (such as stereotypes). 2) What is the oppositional reading of a media text? The oppositional reading goes against the meaning the producers are trying to create. The audience reject the intended message and construct an opposite reading instead. Media Assessment Leaner Response Total Mark = 14 = Grade 4 WWW - This is a very solid first assessment with some good knowledge shown. Now we need to develop the exam technique needed for top level. EBI- In Q3 (12 Mark) you need another paragraph with detailed and specific reference to the text. Annotations will help you do this.  Q1) 1 Mark  Q2) 1 Mark  Q3) 4 Marks  Q4) 2 Marks  Q5) 3 Marks  Q6) 3 Marks - For me, Question 2 was my strongest question as I got it correct but I was able to fully explain the topic where it showed the background setting and the facial expression as a connotation. - My weaker question had to be Question 6 as I didn't understand how to spilt the two topics into one detailed paragraph.
